Luca Alinari

Luca Alinari

I met Luca at his home, on the outskirts of Florence, a beautiful villa which also shows his journey as an artist. When I explained him my project, he accepted to join it with pleasure and enthusiasm, creating exclusive works for the t-shirts giving them a very significant titles.
I think they are among the most beautiful t-shirts of the collection.

Luca Alinari was born in Florence in 1943, during the Second World War.
Very young, he discovers a passion for painting and, like all children, draws and paints.
The painting becomes a way of expressing himself to almost to replace the word. However, he didn’t study in that direction, but of literature and philosophy and he became editor of journals and reviewer of narrative texts.
In 1969 he organized the first exhibition. The year after he created an exhibition where the author presented, sitting between two blank canvases, a man. Title: “A friend and water”
His experiments anticipate the ideas of great Italian painting developed in the late seventies and eighties, as the movement “Nuovi-Nuovi” and “Transavanguardia.”
Alinari is a painter who works in research cycles: the period of the retouched photographs , the one of large domestic interiors, the one of the stars, the phases of the color-landscape, toys, sculptures and plexiglass and the one of glass.
Luca Alinari remains a secret artist, central for his research and sheltered for his location, often misunderstood and not deeply known.
Once the artist wrote: “The painting needs, above all, two things: the first is to discover their roots, the second is to forget them.”
For his work on peace in 2006 was received by Pope Benedict XVI. He has exhibited all over Italy: the Venice Biennale with a personal pavilion in 1982, several participations at the Rome Quadrennial, exhibitions at galleries La Blu in Milan, Spagnoli in Florence and Medusa in Rome. He was also present in solo exhibitions in Paris, Madrid, Miami, Chicago and Lisbon. He is currently organizing a series of exhibitions in China, thanks to a magical and profound harmony between the new culture of China and its recent, disturbing painting experience.
